Sheen Valley Heritage & Amenity Area

The Sheen Valley is famous for its wealth of multi-period archaeological sites. For many years the community has worked hard developing Walks and Cycling Trails throughout the valley showcasing its unique heritage.

Sun Set to Sun Rise Walk is the brainchild of Clodagh O Sullivan and has been organised to celebrate the Summer Solstices while supporting local charities.

The walk begins at Molly Gallivan’s Cottage at 10.30pm on the 20th of June, taking in the Cailleach Beara 12km mountain walk.  It is then returning to Molly Gallivan’s to view the Sun Rise at the Stone Row at 5am on the morning of the 21st and then continuing on to Bonane Heritage Park to again view the Sunrise at the stone circle at 6am.

The entry fee of €15 per person will be donated to the Kerry Cork Health Link Bus and Killarney Water Rescue.

The Kerry Cork Health Link bus is a charity that provides transport to hospital for cancer patients from Cork and Kerry and relies solely on fundraising and sponsorship events.   The Killarney Water rescue is a voluntary club that assists in searching for people missing following water based inshore and coastal incidents

Refreshments will be provided and sponsored by both Molly Gallivans and Bonane Heritage Park. T-Shirts to mark the event will also be on sale.

Anyone not wishing to do the walk but interested in viewing the sunrise at the stone row at Molly Gallivans at (5am) and Bonane Heritage Park (6am) are also welcome with donations for the charities gratefully accepted.
